Working on a mixtape based on middle-eastern music, I asked around for recommendations. Someone pointed me in the direction of this beauty. I intend to be listening to this on repeat for a while now.
People try to find one group or artist when pointing towards changes in musical cues throughout history. The Beach Boys, Van Dyk Parks, Brian Eno, they all played a part in changing the face of music, pulsing with absurdity and psychedelia.
The truth of it all is that it was everybody at once; one giant hive mind that fell into the changes in genres. Always has been that way, always will.
You Won’t is a band that is destined to go far. Not ‘far’ in a mildly quaint township sense of the word. I mean they are going to explode, deserving every bit of fame for their masterful mix of folk and pop.

Modern independent music doesn’t have enough baritone wonders. When many first hear a band such as The National, initial responses are that of interest and unfamiliarity. Indie isn’t supposed to be deep or mellow, but rather pushing all the borders.
Which is exactly why a vocalist such as Bill Callahan (formally Smog) is pushing the barriers. His creatively simplistic songwriting style is wonderful and garnered him the praise he deserves. After discovering him through his 2009 album, Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle, the sound had me immediately hooked and it had a replay value like none other.
And all for good reason. He is more than a deep-voiced musician and singer-songwriter. He is an artist.

I have been absolutely obsessed with this song for the past month.
Once I figure out how to set up an ask box on here, I will be sure to ask for anything that sounds more like this.
